About Holland Heart

Therapy that holds space
for all of you.

Holland Heart Therapy is a fully virtual counseling practice serving clients across Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Founded by Margeaux Groene, LPC, it's built on a single conviction the research confirms again and again: healing happens in relationship. The bond between you and your therapist is the strongest predictor of whether therapy works, and everything here is designed around it.

Why I built this practice

Everyone has an origin story. Mine bridges Cuban roots in Havana and Dutch roots in Holland, and it's where Holland Heart Therapy takes its name. It also grounds how I built this practice: relationally, and with deep respect for each person's story.

Home, for me, was always moving. Relocating often as a kid taught me how much our earliest seasons shape us, and how to lean toward people rather than away. Being the new person, over and over, made me someone who reaches out, who wants to know your story, who believes connection is worth the risk. That instinct is at the center of how I practice today, and it's the standard I hold every clinician I bring into Holland Heart to.

I also have a profound personal connection to recovery, and it drives my commitment to walking alongside clients doing the hard work of healing, whether that's trauma, anxiety, substance use, or simply trying to understand themselves better.

My training reflects that path. I hold an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University and a BA in Organizational Communication from Calvin College, and I continue to deepen my trauma work each year at the Transform Trauma Conference in Oxford. Early in my career, intensive PHP and IOP settings showed me how often substance use, addiction, and PTSD travel together. That experience built in me a trauma-informed approach I carry into every session.

What sets this practice apart is the relationship itself. Therapy, to me, isn't a transaction or a series of sessions you complete and leave behind. It's a relationship you can trust and return to. Many people I work with stay for the long haul, and many who graduate find their way back during the harder seasons. That's what I hope to be for you: a steady resource you can come home to.

I would be honored to do this work with you.

Kalli is a graduate student completing William & Mary's CACREP-accredited M.Ed. in Counseling, concentrating in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She came to the field by way of kinesiology, a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut that left her fascinated by the relationship between mind and body, and committed to a holistic approach to mental health.

Long term, Kalli plans to specialize in mental health and mental performance with athletes. In the meantime, she is eager to deepen her work with clients navigating anxiety, eating disorders, body image, and trauma, while valuing the breadth that comes from sitting with people across a wide range of concerns. River, the mini Goldendoodle therapy dog at Holland Heart Therapy
River
Therapy Dog · Chief Comfort Officer

River is the gentle, fluffy heart of Holland Heart Therapy, a three-year-old mini Goldendoodle who has been part of the practice since his Gotcha day. Long-time clients still remember meeting him during those first few weeks.

Even as a fully remote practice, you may notice River greet you at the start of a session, or pop his head into frame to say hello mid-conversation. He has become one of the most recognizable and most beloved parts of the Holland Heart experience.

Clients often describe him as a steadying presence. He doesn't ask anything of you. He just shows up.
